Chicago's Museum of Science and Technology
I lived in Chicago for quite long. One of the best place to visit, when I just want to get away from everything (work, personal life, rest of the junk), is Chicago's Museum of Science and Technology. Situated south of loop, it is easily accessible via public transport, car, or helicopter (I am just joking about that).
I always use public transport to move around in the city of Chicago. I took red line to State Street (Jackson Station - near DePaul University), from there you can 6th Jeffery Express (it's last stop is Museum of Science and Technology). 6th Jeff. Express, uses Lake/South shore, so it doesn't got many stops - takes about 30 minutes to get to the museum though.
If you want to visit Museum, the best day is Thursday - as admissions are generally free. General admission doesn't include parking fees or various shows.
OmniMax theater shows are brilliant. They are simply terrific. Last time I watched the show about the cosmos and the milky way. Simply great with intense commentary. This is a must must!!
From time to time, Museum organizes special shows (currently they are exhibiting U-505 submarine show). I had the opportunity to watch show on Titanic. It was great, with original footage of ships's departure and under water wreckage.
Museum is organized superbly, there is a section about auto-mobiles, planes, biology, and astronomy etc. Each section deserves some time to enjoy to the fullest.
Feeling hungry now? No worries, there is big food court at the ground level - where you can order from your favorite pizza to Big Mac, or some coffee all under one roof.
