Yes it is a fine city - no doubt about it but it is also an FINE CITY. Check out the following list of violations and associated "fines"
Possession of Chewing Gum = $ 200
Smoking in Public : $ 500
Carrying flammable liquids in Subway : $ 500
Forgetting to flush in public toilets : $ 500
Drugs possession (narcotic) : Death
Littering : $ 1000
Vandalism (Spray painting - graffiti etc.) : Caning (remember Michael Faye)
Crossing the street without using the dedicated Pedestrians path walks : $ 500
dancing in public : $5,000 (hahaahaah - damn)

and how do first time visitor get to know about all these "fines" .. or they taken aback by surprise
well I think people should do some research before hopping on the the plane.
15 years ago - people with long hair (hippy looking) weren't allowed to enter Singapore
